If Mount Si’s boys golf team wants to defend its state 3A title, they will be in for a tough test next spring.
The Wildcats, at Monday’s SeaKing District Tournament in Mukilteo, qualified two golfers to the state tournament, which is set to be held next May in the Tri-Cities. This is down from four who helped win the title this past spring.
The two who made it are no strangers to the event, as they both will be returning from last season’s title team. Junior Jack Kelly carded a round of 72 on the Harbour Pointe Golf Club layout, and finished tied for third. Senior Bradley Harrelson shot a 77 and finished tied for 14th. The top 22-plus ties earned spots to state out of the district event.
Matt Prewett, who was also part of the state title team last season, fired an 82 and missed out on an opportunity to return. Bryce Karalus, looking to make his first state appearance for the Wildcats, shot an 80 and missed the cut by one shot; the cut was 79.
Sean Ballsmith, an Eastside Catholic golfer who lives in the Valley, also missed the cut. The sophomore carded an 81.
