For drivers getting off Interstate 90 at Exit 27, traffic patterns took a bit of a change.

The Washington State Department of Transportation removed the stop sign at the end of the eastbound off-ramp, instead stopping traffic heading up Winery Road.

Formerly, cars heading up North Bend Way/Winery Road had a straight shot to the Snoqualmie Point Park and trailhead, but now traffic leaving the freeway gets the right-of-way.

Mike Murphy, spokesman for WSDOT, said his department has determined that the new Snoqualmie Casino will dramatically increase traffic on the exit.

“It’s not a long ramp,” Murphy said. Casino traffic, he added, could end up backing on to the freeway.

The change, which happened Tuesday, Sept. 23, could take some getting used to. It means that drivers that used to be able to make a straight shot up the hill to the park and trailhead now need to halt.

“Both directions are going to need to adjust,” Murphy said.
