The Mount Si High School tennis team fell to Redmond last Tuesday, Sept. 23. The Mustangs took all nine matches played.
Senior Stephen Salmon provided the best performance for the Wildcats, as he played two solid matches.
Salmon played very well in both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. He came close to a three-set match in singles, losing to Scott Singleton 3-6 and 4-6.
“He probably was a little tired for his first set in doubles, [losing 0-6]” said Mount Si coach Jim Gibowski, “but he and Brian Johnson went to a tiebreaker in the second set,” losing 6-7 (6-8).
Johnson fell in his singles match, 1-6, 1-6 to Redmond’s Blake Larsen. However, Gibowski likes what he sees from Johnson.
“Brian, playing at No. 1 singles, has faced all of our top opponents this season,” he said. “The scores don’t show how tough Brian has played his matches. Brian is an excellent athlete, only playing tennis full time for two years.
“I know all of the guys he has been playing have been competing much longer,” Gibowski added. “Brian continues to improve as a player despite the scores.”
Ryan Oswald put up a good fight in singles before falling to Mustang Jamel Murray, and the doubles pairs of Ben Olson and Marc Kinsman and Mitch Hubner and Matt Lynne also played solid efforts in defeat.
Last Thursday’s home match with Interlake was rained out.
