For the first time in recent memory, Snoqualmie Valley’s school kids will be hard at work before Labor Day this fall.
The Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors approved the 2009-2010 school year calendar in January. The district’s calendar committee, which includes teachers, secretaries and administrators, had recommended school begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The last day of classes is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, 2010.
The committee also asked for an additional seven make-up days to be inserted at the end of the year, in case of bad weather.
The new calendar was designed to increase extra flexibility to the coming school year if severe weather conditions affect the district. This year, students missed eight days of classes due to snow and flooding.
The district plans to survey staff and parents later this year for input on the 2010-2011 calendar, which the district will take up this spring.
A copy of the revised 2008-2009 calendar, as well as the newly approved 2009-2010 calendar, will be posted on the district Web site, www.svsd410.org.
