The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks track team hosted the Mercer Island Islanders on Thursday, April 30, in their first meet. The seventh-grade girls team won with a score of 63-12. The Hawks were led by Laurel Meredith who scored first in all four of her events: 75-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the high jump.

Other stars were Morgan Treado with three first place wins, in the 400-meter dash, discus, and shot put. Lianne Hoeger, Lauren Solene and Delaney Hollis each placed in many of their events.

The seventh-grade boys team lost a hard-fought battle, 46-41. Quinn Oster placed first in the 400-meter dash and the shot put. Reid Malmquist also placed first in two events — the discus and the 800-meter run. Max Isen and Jacob Black added significant points for the team in their events.

The eighth-grade girls team dominated the track, beating Mercer Island 82-19. The ladies took first in 11 of 13 events. Taking first place were Cassie Harvey in the 1600-meter race, Haley Barrett in the hurdles, Jacqui Roddewig in the discus, Ronnie Wassink in the 800-meter run, Celena Wassink in the 200-meter run and long jump, Lydia Lofgren in the shot put, and Brittley Barrett in the high jump.

The Hawks eighth-grade boys team swept the Islanders with a score of 100-4, taking first and second in every event. Alex Censullo led the team, taking first in four events — the 1600- and 800-meter races, the long jump and the medley relay. Also taking first were Rigel Kuhn in hurdles, Austin Hall in the 100 meter dash, Dane Raymond in the 400-meter dash, Gabe Wattenbarger in the 200-meter dash, Cole Palmer in shot put, Shad Shreiber in discus and Cameron Vanwinkle in high jump.

Chief Kanim hosts Issaquah on Thursday, May 7, for their last home meet.
