Friends of Fall City Parks (FFCP) seized the opportunity to comment on the Determination of Non-Signifcance issued last month by Department of Natural Resources and Parks regarding the proposed transfer of Fall City Park to the Snoqualmie Tribe.

FFCP objected to the department’s proposed timing for King County Council action on the transfer proposal in 2008. The fact that a Fall City Metropolitan Park District formation is in progress should be sufficient cause to bring the transfer proceedings to a halt.

FFCP contends that the transfer of Fall City Park by the county to the Tribe is a misuse of power and authority by the county to use chapter 36.34 in the Revised Code of Washington as justification for the park transfer. The state Legislature created a clear pathway for counties to convey park property to metropolitan park districts. King County will be denying the clear will of the Legislature and the people of the state of Washington if it continues with the park transfer proceedings to the Tribe.
