Jazz trio to take Center Stage
The Cascade Jazz Trio presents their live sounds, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Valley Center Stage in North Bend.
As resident band for Valley Center Stage, the trio provides a creative blend of standard, modern and original jazz, served up with energy and elegance. From swing and Latin classics to more progressive works by Monk and Coltrane, the trio seek to create new environments for group improvisation. Keyboards and reeds, acoustic and electric bass, and a variety of drums and percussion effects give the group a wide range of sounds and textures.
Opening night will also feature Improv comedy with Gary Schwartz and guest vocalist Leslie Phillips.

Fall cleanup day set at MSHS
The 2008 Fall Special Recycling Collection Event sponsored by the city of Snoqualmie is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Mount Si High School back parking lot, located at 8651 Meadowbrook Way S.E., Snoqualmie.
All King County households are eligible to participate. The event is funded with grants from the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County, the King County Solid Waste Division, and the Washington State Department of Ecology.
On that Saturday, Snoqualmie’s Public Works Department will accept residential household materials for recycling, including:
• Styrofoam loose packing peanuts (no Styrofoam blocks).
• Plastic plant pots.
• Textiles and reusable household goods; unacceptable or large items will be refused.
• Used motor oil, filters and antifreeze.
• Batteries from cars, trucks, boats and household batteries in sizes A, AA, AAA, AAAA, B, C and D.
• Tires (disposal of tires cost $1 each, $2 on rims, $5 for a split rim, $10 for truck tires, and $20 for truck tires with rims).
• Refrigerators and freezers (there is a $20 cost for safe removal of chemicals, and air handling units cost $35).
• Electronics (there is a $10 cost for monitors, CPU, and laptops, $20 for televisions, $25 for console TVs, $50 for plasma or large TVs, and $5 for VCRs and printers.
• Scrap metal, including hot water tanks, stoves, microwaves, washers, dryers, cast iron sinks and tubs, iron, steel and auto parts. Lawnmowers and barbecues must have fuel and oil removed. No propane tanks or plastic -cased appliances will be accepted.
