The Wii (pronounced “wee”) console has 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi capability, a bay for a memory card and will have downloadable access to 20 years of Nintendo game titles released for earlier game systems and newly-developed games by independent developers. It can also communicate with the Internet, even when turned off.
The system has ports for classic game controllers but its new controllers use wireless Bluetooth technology that can be detected up to 10 meters from the console. The new “Intuitive” controllers – one that resembles a television remote control and one that resembles a Nunchuk – work by sensing the physical motion of the controller.
The system has a self-loading media bay that will play single- or double-sided 12-centimeter optical discs for the Wii system as well as 8-centimeter GameCube discs.
