A North Bend man has been found innocent of animal cruelty in the shooting of a dog near North Bend last June.

King County Prosecutors alleged that Valley resident Travis Hedin and his father, Terrance Hedin of Tukwila, drove a four-year-old male Rottweiler to a wooded area, tied him to a log, shot him three times and abandoned him. The dog, whose name was Maynard, had bitten the younger man’s wife several times in the last two months.

Four days later, the dog was found and reported to King County Animal Care and Control. After a surgery left the dog paralyzed from the neck down, animal care workers realized the dog would not be able to recover. King County decided to euthanize the dog.

On Friday, March 12, a King County jury acquitted Travis Hedin of the cruelty charge.

Terrence Hedin will not be retried after his first trial on animal-cruelty charges ended in a mistrial on Friday, Feb. 12. Terrance was freed after a hung jury deliberated for almost two days.
