Cedarcrest takes second

The Cedarcrest wrestling team traveled to the Vashon Island tournament recently and took second out of 17 teams.

Leading the effort was Aaron Pedeferri who took first at 119 pounds, and Darren DeBoer who took first at 130 pounds.

Placing second was Tony Stedman at 145 pounds. Third-place finishes went to Andrew Claussen at 145 pounds and Cole Birk at 215 pounds. Stephen Gunderson took fourth at 103 pounds, along with Cody Hudson at 140 pounds and Alan Shults at 152 pounds.


Wildcats wrestlers trounce Totems

On their way to a third league win, the Mount Si Wildcat wrestling team defeated the Sammamish Totems 66-12 last week.

Individual finishes are: 103 pounds, Jason Rothgeb (MS) won by forfeit; 112 pounds, Alex Haas (MS) pinned Talor Green (S); 119 pounds, Jordan Prior (MS) pinned Bobby Price (S); 125 pounds, Andy Lund (MS) won by forfeit; 130 pounds, Jon Emerson (MS) pinned James Musco (S); 135 pounds, Nick Martindale (MS) won by forfeit; 140 pounds, Brett Gardner (S) defeated Brad Trombley (MS) 14-12; 145 pounds, Chris Ippolito (MS) won by forfeit; 152 pounds, Kyle Jacobson (MS) won by forfeit; 160 pounds, Tyler Austin (MS) pinned Morgan Waldo (S); 171 pounds, Arash Ranjbaran (S) pinned Nick Ippolito (MS); 189 pounds, Mike Dangelo (S) defeated Trevor Moore (MS) 8-3; 215 pounds, Dylan Seubert (MS) pinned Mike Guentzel (S); 275 pounds, Cory Anderson (MS) pinned Brian McKenzie (S).

The Cedarcrest Red Wolves wrestling team destroyed the Issaquah Indians last week 55-18.

At 103 pounds, Connor Baker (C) won by forfeit; 112 pounds, Nate Dulbeleic (I) pinned Stephen Gunderson (C) at 0:15; 119 pounds, Aaron Pedeferri (C) defeated Brian Leslie (I) 10-1; 125 pounds, Curtis Left (C) pinned Nate Potts (I) at 3:22; 130 pounds, Darren DeBoer (C) pinned Chris Yncera (I) at 3:36; 135 pounds, Tate Brammer (C) pinned Chris Shaeffer (I) at 3:25; 140 pounds, Jon Katayama (I) defeated Cody Hudson (C) 9-2; 145 pounds, Andrew Clausen (C) pinned Nate Freeberg (I) at 3:57; 152 pounds, Eric Eagle (I) defeated Sean Ansell (C) 8-1; 160 pounds, Alan Schults (C) defeated Travis Johnson (I) 8-7; 171 pounds, Adam Speir (C) pinned Marshall Clark (I) at 2:15; 189 pounds, Robby Westermann (C) won by forfeit; 215 pounds, John Boedecker (I) pinned Cole Birk (C) at 1:50; 275 pounds, Cedarcrest forfeited.


Indians vault past Wildcats

The Issaquah Indians defeated the Mount Si gymnastics team last week 171-131.5.

The best finish for the Wildcats came from Piper Sherbon, who took third in the floor with a score of 8.5.


Wildcats best Valley rivals

Mount Si notched another league win by defeating the Cedarcrest Red Wolves 44-28.

Leading the effort offensively was Nicci Landdeck, who had a triple-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals.

Kristen Travis had eight points for Mount Si, and Rachel Salz had 13 rebounds and seven points for the Red Wolves. Others scoring points for Mount Si were Angela Jones with one, Lizzie Finnegan with one, Kristen Berndt with three, Karin Brevik with two, Whitney Beyerlin with five, Rachel Travis with four, Amy Keogh with two and Christine Leotiota with one.

Scoring for Cedarcrest were Betsy Westermann with three, Jenine Drew with four, Nikki Neilson with seven, Katy Dern with fivbe and Marcie McCoy with two.


Junior-varsity boys win two

The Mount Si boys junior-varsity basketball team notched two wins recently, defeating Bellevue 48-40 and Cedarcrest 62-51.

At Bellevue the Mount Si JV boys defeated Bellevue 48-40. The Wolverines (4-1) were previously undefeated in league play. The Wildcat’s KingCo record also jumped to 4-1.

Top scorers for the ‘Cats were Hank Kennedy with 18 and Casey Hough with nine. Kennedy also had 17 rebounds and four blocked shots. John Karlen had 10 boards. DJ Penneywell did a good job of defending Bellevue’s high-scoring point guard to help secure the win.

At home Mount Si defeated a tough Cedarcrest team 62-51. The Red Wolves made it a close game all the way until the Wildcats managed to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Mount Si’s league record now stands at 5-1, and its season record is 7-3.

The leading scorers against the Red Wolves were Penneywell with 13, Derek Donah with eight and Erik Tierney, Casey Hough and Jordan Proudfoot with seven each.

Penneywell had 14 rebounds, followed by John Karlen with nine and Eric Meuli with eight . Proudfoot and Penneywell also had three assists each.


‘Cats’ ‘C’ team wins

The Mount Si girls’ “C” basketball team recently defeated the Cedarcrest Red Wolves 48-20.

Leading the effort was Maggie Kujath with eight points followed by Marie Will, Emily White and Megan Dunklee who all had six.
