House calls, straight to your computer

Valley man offers PC repair

Now in business in the Snoqualmie Valley, Sno Valley PC-MD’s Jack Scheidegger is helping families and businesses keep their computers safe, secure and running smooth.

Scheidegger founded his business as Terabyte Technologies in 2004, but recently moved it to Snoqualmie under a new name, Sno-Valley PC MD, when he bought a home here. Scheidegger was born and raised in North Bend,

“I’m a hometown boy, coming back,” he said. “I never saw myself in the role of ‘small-town boy returning’, but it seems to suit me. This is a great place to bring my family.”

He joined the Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce last week.

For Scheidegger, there are a few specialists that everyone needs at one time or other — a trustworthy doctor, lawyer and mechanic.

“And, you’ve got to have a PC guy you can count on,” he said.

Scheidegger is a Microsoft-registered partner who specializes in computer repairs and networking for the home or office. He can rebuild systems to make them run faster than the day they were bought, protect people’s data and treasured photos, and help them use networks in their homes and offices. His business is mobile — Scheidegger works out of a home office and makes house calls.

“I’ve been told I have a gift for translating from nerd to human,” he said. Scheidegger trained to be a computer engineer, but discovered that his gift was helping people.

“My idea of heaven is not sitting in a closet, writing code,” he said. “The longer I was in school working on that track, the further I was getting away from what I really enjoyed.

“Where I really came to be comfortable is in the small office/ home office and residential arena, working with people one on one and figuring out how to save them money,” he added.

Challenge is more important to Scheidegger than punching a clock.

“It takes boldness to walk into a strange situation, day after day,” helping new people with different problems.

Scheidegger knows that his success is based on his ability to solve those problems.

“People ask, how long did it take you to learn this,” he said. “I’ll let you know when I stop.”

Staying on the bleeding edge of technology is daunting, but it comes with the territory.

“You have to have a solid working knowledge of what is going on,” Scheidegger said, especially in an era when technology and software change so quickly.

Scheidegger is married to wife Joan and has a 14-month-old daughter, Jaclyn.

“She’s the biggest thing in my world,” Scheidegger said of his daughter. “There’s absolutely nothing like her.”

Outside of the job, he enjoys long hikes on Rattlesnake with his Border collie, spending time at the pistol range, and collecting DC comics — but no particular superhero, though.

“I like different aspects of a lot of them,” he explained. “It’s funny, when I was a kid, I could buy 5 comics for a buck but now some of them are $5 each! I don’t know how kids can afford to buy them anymore.”

His family lives in the Heights neighborhood of Snoqualmie Ridge.

“We’ve never had neighbors that are so thoroughly enjoyable,” he said. “We all share a lot of excitement about living here. We stand in front of our homes and joke that we’ve hit the ‘good neighbor lottery’ but it’s really true.”
