Snoqualmie goes out to bid this month for a grind-and-overlay of Meadowbrook Way between State Route 202 and North Bend Way. Road work and closures begin this week, however, as the Northwest Railway Museum’s rail crossing is updated.

The job will mean less wear and tear on drivers’ vehicles, as potholes and structural problems are eliminated. Public Works Director Dan Marcinko said the job, which will take off four inches of pavement, should be a dramatic improvement. No sidewalks are planned.

Meadowbrook Way will close for three days this week, Tuesday, Wednedsay and Thursday, July 5 to 7, for replacement of the railroad crossing. Northwest Railway Museum is involved in that project. The Federal Highway Administration and Snoqualmie Casino is providing funds for the city’s portion.

The contractor will be selected in July and work begins in August.

While closing the road impacts drivers, who will need to find alternate routes such as 384th Street and Stone Quarry Road, the closure allows for a stronger, more efficient project—cheaper and better for taxpayers, Marcinko said.
