Sharon Wyrsch, Marcie Dardis, Candy Reno and Sandy Bennett celebrated April Fools’ day with a stunt that set the whole town of North Bend on its ear.

Describing themselves as four “working girls” interested in boosting the local economy, they chose Bill Glazier as their subject, or victim, depending on your point of view. Bill was having lunch across the street from his store when his attention was drawn to flashing red lights and a window display that literally stopped traffic. The styles in Glazier’s store windows were a far cry from anything seen before in that respected old establishment. Following a little talk with his helpers, Bill suggested they should have “a house of your own.” They pursued that idea by interviewing Harry Buhler at Eastside Realty. He told them they would need a loan, so on their way to the bank they stopped briefly at the bakery to wish owner George Macris a happy birthday.

The manager at Sea-First directed the girls to the city hall to secure a business license. Virginia Anderson, city administrative assistant, called the sheriff, and the four working girls languished behind bars until kind-hearted Sgt. Dave Jolly let them out on their own recognizance.
