The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks seventh grade girls varsity basketball team earned their first win of the season Thursday, Dec. 4, with a 23-25 victory over the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles.

The Hawks started off in control and energized during the roller coaster of a game, then struggled to score for two quarters. Finally, the Hawks kicked it into gear and played some intense ball for the last five minutes of the game.

Coach Chris Blake said he was impressed with the team’s perserverance.

“The ladies never gave up,” Blake said. “I loved their attitude.”

Ivy Paradissis had nine points and 14 rebounds; Nikki Carroll had eight points and seven steals; Sophia Rouches had two points and seven steals; Leah Corra had two points and eight rebounds; Jenny Carroll had two clutch free throws; Jesse Guyer had three steals; and Devon Wattenbarger had one rebound.

The Hawks lost a hard-fought game Tuesday, Dec. 2, to a visiting Tolt team, 19-33.

The Hawks started off slowly, but got their bearings in the second half, becoming more aggressive both offensively and defensively.

“The ladies are excellent athletes and hustle all of the time,” Blake said. “They’re only going to get better.”

Leah Corra had six points and four rebounds; Ivy Paradissis had four points and three rebounds; Nikki Carroll had four points and three steals; Sophia Rouches had two points and two steals; Jenny Carroll had one point and two steals, Devon Wattnebarger had two points; Jesse Guyer had four rebounds; and Danielle Clark had three rebounds.

Gymnasts take honors at classic

The Gymnastics East team from Bellevue, which includes athletes from the Snoqualmie Valley, took part in the “Chocolate Classic” meet, held Nov. 8 and 9 at Leading Edge Gymnastic in Everett. The team garnered some great results.

More than 90 gymnasts from levels four and five participated, Gymnastic East won the 1st places in group in both levels. Team member Amber Chong had the highest score in all age groups in level five.

In the Ch. 10 group, Valley athlete Abby Weber from Gym East won the 2nd place with score 35.225.
