Our family goes to the Henry Moses Aquatic outdoor pool every summer in Renton. The Renton Parks District has created an excellent aquatic facility (wave pool, two water slides, lazy river, kiddy spray garden and a 25-meter, six lane, competitive lap pool) that draws crowds from all over King County.

It is so popular that you have to line up an hour before the pool opens its doors for nonresidents and residents wanting to swim. Also, Renton is going to expand its pool amenities to accommodate its popularity.

I am concerned that if the Si View Metropolitan Parks District in North Bend lobbies for an aquatic facility on the size of Renton’s scale, we will face the same types of frustrating lines to attend our own pool facility.

However, at the same time I would like to see a Renton-type aquatic facility in North Bend on a much larger scale to accommodate the Valley and tourists. But, it appears that this type of facility that King County might propose could take years before it is approved and built.

But within two years, the city of Snoqualmie could build a pool and community center, if that design was supported by voters this November, in the Snoqualmie Ridge area.

This facility would complement the outdoor play fields already in the park and would create a unique community gathering complex.

If approved, this pool and community center will be operable in 2008 and will be for the whole Valley to enjoy.

Many Snoqualmie residents have been waiting a long time for a neighborhood-based pool and community center.

That facility should be built first. A larger regional King County aquatics facility could follow in North Bend to serve a larger geographic area.
