Auditions this week for Center Stage’s ‘The Foreigner’

Valley Center Stage, North Bend’s community theater, is holding auditions for Larry Shue’s popular comedy “The Foreigner” for a three-week run in May.

The central character in “The Foreigner” is Charlie, who, while on a vacation in a Georgia hunting lodge, pretends not to be able to understand English, so as to avoid the attentions of the other guests. His plan backfires and he soon finds himself the confidant of everyone there, especially Catherine’s brother, Ellard, who thinks he is teaching Charlie English. Charlie ends up having to foil the schemes of the local Ku Klux Klan chapter without revealing his secret.

Parts available include: Charlie Baker, 35 – 55, British accent, meek, painfully shy; Froggy LeSueur, 35 – 55, British accent, military demo expert on loan to the US Army; Betty Meeks, 50 – 70 Southern rural, sweet-natured, open and naive; the Rev. David Marshall Lee, 25 – 45 Southern rural, hiding a secret connection to the KKK; Catherine Simms, 20 – 35 Southern rural, faded debutante engaged to Lee; Owen Musser, 25 – 55, Southern rural, mean, racist, cruel; and Ellard Simms, 20 – 45, Southern rural.

Auditions will be at Valley Center Stage, 119 North Bend Way, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27, 2:30 to 4 p.m. Callbacks are Monday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m.
