The centennial of North Bend’s creation as a city passed quietly this month, but civic leaders are planning big celebrations this summer.

The city of North Bend was incorporated March 12, 1909, but 100 years later, the streets were empty and no events were planned to mark the date.

“I’m probably going to go home and have a beer,” said city administrator Duncan Wilson.

The city is planning several events for the summer months, when the weather is better, he said. Planned events include:

Block parties

Two block parties are scheduled tentatively planned for June 13 and July 18 in downtown North Bend.

“It will be to showcase downtown merchants with music and food, maybe a beer garden or two,” Wilson said.

Mount Si Festival

The city is contributing money to enhance the musical acts and fireworks of the annual festival, August 7 to 9. An exhibit on the city’s history is planned.

Master Builders project

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish County, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is collaborating on a project with the city to mark both anniversaries.

Time capsule

Still in the works, one idea for the capsule is to include children’s drawings of what North Bend will look like in 50 years.
