Chief Kanim Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade girls varsity basketball teams lost hard-fought battles on Monday, Dec. 7, to the Pine Lake Wolverines.
The Hawks worked hard and never gave up, and Coaches Blake and Seuburt loved seeing the tenacity of their teams.
Eighth grade standouts included Leah Corra with four points and seven rebounds, Jesse Guyer with two points, Keara Shelton with two points, Nikki Carrol with one point and Sophia Rouches with great defense.
Seventh grade stars included Kennedy McCann with 11 points, Kayla Steilan with three points and strong defense, Kenzie Kendall with three points and seven rebounds, Hannah Taylor with two points and six steals and Kenzie Popp with three assists.
The eighth grade Lady Hawks played their most exciting game of the season Friday, Dec. 3, against the Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles. At half, the Hawks were down, but great defense by Chief Kanim kept the Eagles to a low-scoring game. Pressure by the Hawks in the second half forced multiple turnovers and steals. Tied with six seconds left, Hawks players took the ball inbounds and passed it up the court. With an assist from Jesse Guyer, Jenny Carrol sunk a game winning shot at the buzzer.
The Chief Kanim Hawks seventh grade team earned their second victory of the year that night with a 23-10 victory over visiting SMS. The Hawks played an outstanding second half of basketball to pull away from the Eagles. Coach Chris Blake said he was proud of the team’s second half performance.
