Mount Si video students made an impressive showing at the 2014 Northwest High School Film Festival, winning more awards and honorable mentions than ever before, said video production teacher Joe Dockery.

They won across a broad range of categories, too, from documentaries and educational films to public service announcements and art films. Many of the films will be shown this Thursday, May 29, in the Wildcat Film Festival at the North Bend Theater. The event starts at 4:30, with student films starting at 5 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. showing of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

This year’s winners were: Zachary Tidwell, earning three Awards of Excellence, for a commercial, “Nightmare at Beaver Lake” produced by Chase Watne and Emily Wood, a documentary on the Mount Si High School band program produced by Gavin Treglown, Paul Bateman, Emma Panciroli, Will Crandell, and Madelynn Esteb, and, with Nick Vikari and Maile Young, a video on suicide prevention in the educational/informational category. Cody Copitzky, Riley Haney and Sam Young won an Award of Excellence for their “Veterans Video” public service announcement, produced by Mr. Vinny-D,  Tommy Petty, Christian Glennon, Zach Wunder, Veronica Braveiner.

Mount Si students also earned six Honorable Mentions: Parker McComb, Nate George, Bailey Scott and Maddy Hutchison were recognized for their educational video on the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation Grants, produced by Connor Lind, Sam Young and Wunder; McComb, Glennon, Lind and Ray Gallagher, for their educational video, “Silverthin;”Copitzyky, for his art film, “Wasser,” Tidwell for his art film, “Dissonance,” produced by Treglown, Bateman, and Conner Skylstad;Rachel Mallasch, for her art film, “Time is Against Us;” Scott and Glennon, for their STEMFest commercial; and Anthony Petty and Sierra Backes for their PSA ceramics promotional video.
