Habitat for Humanity of East King County invites the public to an open house showcasing its newest cottage-style home development planned for Carnation, Thursday, April 14, 6 to 8 p.m. at Carnation City Hall, Council Chambers. The event will include drawings and illustrations of the development plans with opportunities for questions and public comment.

The project will feature 14 cottage-style homes with front porches. Plans include open spaces, a walkable neighborhood design and energy-efficient features. The homes will range in size from two to five bedrooms and will be the most “green” Habitat EKC development to date with plans to certify the homes under Energy Star, Built Green, and Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards.

Since 1988, Habitat EKC has built, rehabbed or repaired 107 houses. The goal of this affiliate is to make it possible for low-income Eastside residents to be able to purchase simple, decent, affordable homes. The families who will move into these homes will put in 500 hours of their own labor as a downpayment towards homeownership.
