The Washington State Transportation Improvement Board has awarded the city of North Bend $400,000 in grants to complete two projects identified in the city’s six-year Transportation Improvement Program.

Sidewalk improvements on the north side of North Bend Way, from Downing Avenue to Orchard Street will be funded by a grant of $156,430, which can be used for both design and construction costs. The city must contribute $52,144 in matching funds for this project.

The second award is $250,000 for pavement overlay of a significant portion of North Bend Way, west of Thrasher. The city’s match requirement for this project is $27,778.

Match funding will be partially provided by the recently approved Transportation Benefit District (TBD) sales and use tax approved by voters.

“We want to express our gratitude to the citizens of North Bend for approving the TBD tax levy” said City Administrator Duncan Wilson. “These new revenues allow the city to seek grants that provide the city with the tools to accomplish essential improvements to the city’s transportation system.”
