Speaker to discuss parents, athletics

Parents, coaches and sports fans in the Snoqualmie Valley School District can take part in an interactive presentation on the role of parents in athletics, planned for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Snoqualmie Middle School Gym, 9200 Railroad Ave., Snoqualmie.

Speaker Bruce Brown will talk about how adults can help their athletic performance, create good memories and demonstrate respect from the perspective of young people.  Brown is founder of “Proactive Coaching,” which focuses on team building, athletics, student/athletes, retreats, coaches, captains, and workshops for parents and their role in athletics. His work focuses on instilling core values in athletes.

Fall karate classes planned at Si View

Si View Community Center is now registering students for October karate classes. Classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. To register, call (425) 831-1900 or visit Kelli Higginbotham at the center, located at 400 S.E. Orchard Dr. in North Bend.

Hopelink holds

fiesta, classes

Valley residents are invited to learn about Hopelink services, sign up for English-as-a-Second-Language or other classes, eat tasty food and have fun.

A community fiesta is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Hopelink center in Carnation, 31957 E. Commercial St.

This free event will give the community a chance to register for ESL classes, learn about other Hopelink services, munch on snacks from Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant and have fun. Children who attend will get a chance to swing at a piñata, play games, win prizes and get their faces painted. The event marks the beginning of the school year as well as the start of Hopelink’s fall schedule of free ESL classes.

In Snoqualmie, classes are 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 7, at St. Clare Episcopal Church, 8650 Railroad Ave. S.E.

In North Bend, classes are 6:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Oct. 6, at North Bend Library, 115 E. 4th St.

In Fall City, classes are 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Oct. 8, at Fall City Library, 33415 S.E. 42nd Pl.

In Carnation, classes are 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Oct. 8, and 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, starting Oct. 9, at Hopelink in Carnation, 31957 E. Commercial St.

In Duvall, classes are 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 7, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 26526 Cherry Valley Rd., Duvall.
