Cedarcrest Drill Team `superior’ at camp

The Cedarcrest Drill team recently attended a camp put on by the

Universal Dance Association and scored big. The team took third place for

its home routine, which it has been practicing all summer.

The team also took home a superior trophy for outstanding work

while attending the camp, and for the great attitudes each member exhibited.

The team received a total of four spirit sticks, the most any team was

awarded at the camp.

“The team is going to be awesome this year,” said Lieutenant of

Public Relations Mia Robinson. “We’re ready to work hard and be superior,”

she added.

Individual honors went to Lieutenant Secretary Shauna VanTassel,

with a first-place finish in drill downs. Teammate Captain Gwen Kearns

took third in the same event. First-year member Kelly Pflugrath took first

for the beginning drill downs, and Captain Mallory Taylor made the

All-Star team with a chance to go to Paris, France.

At the camp, the girls were required to learn a total of three

routines and perform them for the instructors. There were three potential ribbons

that could be earned: blue for superior, red for excellent and white for

outstanding. The team earned a total of 86 superior and seven excellent ribbons.

The team can be seen at Cedarcrest home football games starting in

September.
