Snoqualmie Police used surveillance camera footage to make two arrests in the Thursday, Jan. 6 burglary at Mount Si High School.

Two men, one from Snoqualmie, the other from Auburn, were arrested Friday, Jan. 7, in connection with the break-in.

According to reports, the burglary happened at 1 a.m. Thursday. Thieves entered the school’s locked safe room and vaults, stealing about $2,000 in cash and checks. Stolen currency included payment from parents and students that the school received Wednesday for food services. A 22-inch television and Xbox 360 system were taken from the ASB student lounge, and there was also an unsuccessful attempt to break into the ATM machine in the commons. The break-in was reported to police after the school’s security alarm went off.

Camera footage helped police identify one of the suspects, an 18-year-old Snoqualmie man and former Mount Si student known to police and school security personnel.

Police called him about 11:30 a.m. Friday, and he agreed to turn himself in, according to police reports. The second suspect, a 19-year-old Auburn man, was then taken into custody.

Both men will be booked into King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, first degree theft and malicious mischief.

According to a police department spokeswoman, the two men entered the school through the vocational shop, then used shop tools to jimmy open doors throughout the building. The break-in caused an estimated $30,000 in damages.
