Single-lane traffic on Railroad continues into next week

Infrastructure work on Snoqualmie’s Railroad Avenue has caused single-lane closures of the roadway this week, and drivers can expect the delays tomorrow and Monday, possibly longer.

Construction workers are installing a new water main along Railroad, between Southeast Newton Street and Southeast Northern Street. The work requires cuts in the roadway, explained Snoqualmie project engineer Kamal Mahmoud. One lane of the road is cut during the installation, requiring traffic to stop.

Although the work has been going on all week, traffic was greatly affected Thursday, because some of the trenches had to be dug deeper.

Snoqualmie spokeswoman Joan Pliego said the single-lane closures were occasional, and necessary for the new water mains, but added “it’s also very important to us that traffic keep moving… Normally, (the flaggers who stop traffic) try to switch directions every five minutes.”

Work on the road, with intermittent single-lane closures is expected to continue tonight (8 p.m. to 5 a.m.), tomorrow, and weekdays, possibly as late as next Friday, Jan. 30.

Drivers who can avoid the construction are advised to use Meadowbrook Way, instead of Railroad Avenue.
