To help fund Snoqualmie Valley School District intervention programs, just answer the phone.

On Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 12 and 13, more than 100 student and parent volunteers will be making calls in the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation’s third annual phonathon. Their goal is to raise $20,000 or more.

“We want to fund the math intervention and enrichment program in all elementary schools,” said Foundation President Carmen Villanueva, “plus we will fund fully the Natural Helpers weekend training that they have in the fall.”

Each year, the foundation also awards individual grants to teachers for special projects or curriculum tools, like the force and motion kit that science teacher Dave Cruz bought for his Snoqualmie Middle School students last year. Typically, the foundation gives out between $15,000 and $25,000 in classroom grants each year.

“This year, we’ve already set aside $15,000. We’re hoping to add another $5,000 or $10,000 depending on the outcome of the phonathon,” said Villanueva.

Volunteers will call school district residents from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. for each day of the phonathon. They will be able to accept credit or debit card payments over the phone, or donors can send in checks.
