The city of North Bend will host a ribbon cutting for the new Centennial Climbing Wall at Torguson Park during the Fesitval at Mount Si.
The ceremony is 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.
It commences with the arrival of paragliders into the park. Then, the ribbon will be cut and North Bend Mayor Ken Hearing and other dignitaries will make short speeches. A fireworks display follows at 9:45 p.m.
The Festival at Mount Si also hosts the City Birthday Party, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Si View Park. The party will feature a “Centennial Quilt Cake” that the community is going to be invited to help bake.
The cake was the idea of Annika Laufer, local fourth grade student who wrote a letter to the mayor suggesting baking the world’s largest cake trying for the Guinness Book of World Records. While North Bend isn’t likely to break any records — locals investigated and found that Los Vegas holds the title with a 30,000-combined-sheet-cakes concoction — plans are going forward for a giant birthday cake.
Centennial Festival celebrations will also include a 20-by-40-foot booth and interactive display by the Snoqualmie Valley Historical Museum. The North Bend Parks Foundation will also be on hand at the same booth on Saturday sharing information about the foundation.
