The U.S. Forest Service will get $5.59 million of federal stimulus money for work in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.

Projects, mostly road work and drainage improvements, will help protect watersheds, according to the USFS. The work will be spread out in King, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom Counties.

Roads on Bessemer Mountain near the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River will be decommissioned for $600,000. Maintenance will be done on the Hansen Creek Road by the river’s South Fork and west of Humpback Mountain for $250,000.

Road maintenance and improved drainage projects will prevent erosion and protect water quality, according to the USFS.
