A six-vote margin separating the two candidates for a commissioner seat in Hospital District 4 will be resolved by a hand recount starting Dec. 12, the King County Elections office reported Nov. 30. Final results are expected Dec. 13, and certification will be Dec. 16.
Just under 10,000 votes cast in the race, for Commissioner Position 3, will be recounted by hand because of the small, 0.0651 percent, difference in votes for the two candidates. Gene Pollard led the race with 4,613 votes, but Karyn Denton, who had been appointed to fill the commissioner position until the election, was close behind with 4,607 votes. There were also 45 write-in votes cast in the race.
The recount is one of four that were triggered by close votes when the King County Canvassing Board certified the results of the Nov. 8 general election. Other recounts will be conducted for the city of Des Moines, City Council position 6, the city of Bellevue, City Council Position 1; and Enumclaw School District, Director District 4.
