• Mount Si High School has named Mike Chandler as its salutatorian and Lynn Hindes as its valedictorian for the class of 1983.

• Walking through the Carnation Cemetery during Memorial Day week is like visiting a museum of Valley history. The townspeople are justifiably proud of the immaculate lawns and orderliness of the cemetery, that sets the tone of country charm to all those who enter Carnation from the north.

• Train whistles may soon be blowing in North Bend again after a number of years, under a plan being considered by the North Bend City Council.

• Special ceremonies to open the visitor’s information booth in North Bend will be held this Saturday.

Thursday, May 29, 1958

• School will soon be out! Magic words to students in Districts 407 and 410, who are looking forward to a long, pleasant summer vacation, which begins next week.

• Pity the poor restaurant people! If fixing a lunch box or two every morning throws you into a tizzy, then just be glad you weren’t called upon to feed the hundreds of men fighting fire east of North Bend last week. Thompson’s had a regular assembly line going with all hands helping to fix some 225 lunches on Friday. Loaves of bread, pounds of butter, quarts of mayonnaise, sliced meats, stacks of cheese, boxes of oranges and dozens of cookies provided the wherewithal that went into the paper bags.

Thursday, May 25, 1933

• Fifty interested men from towns along the Sunset Highway, from Ellensburg to Seattle, journeyed to Olympia Tuesday to discuss getting another section of Snoqualmie Pass paved this summer. They were given a lot of encouragement, to say the least.

• Thirty-six seniors at Snoqualmie High School will receive their diplomas at commencement exercises June 1. The class motto is “Finished, yet beginning.”
