The Riverview School District has announced the appointment of Mike Ruhland, from interim assistant principal to continuing assistant principal of Cedarcrest High School, pending School Board approval in May.
Ruhland has served in the role as interim assistant principal, replacing Ray LaBate, who was named interim principal of Cedarcrest with the retirement of Clarence Lavarias in December.
Ruhland’s succession to continuing assistant principal follows LaBate being named continuing principal of Cedarcrest in February.
He began working at Cedarcrest, and in education, in 2004 as an educational assistant. In 2007, Ruhland was hired as a math teacher. Additionally, he has coached baseball at Cedarcrest nearly every year since 2004-05, and has coached football and girls and boys basketball at Tolt Middle School through the years.
At the conclusion of the 2014-15 school year, Ruhland earned the Educator of the Year Award from the Cedarcrest PTSA at the annual Senior Awards Night.
In March, he received the Give Good Award for Outstanding Youth Advocacy, representing an individual, “who values and supports Snoqualmie Valley youth, as an advocate for their needs and interests in the community.”
“I am very excited to announce that Mike Ruhland has been selected as Cedarcrest’s assistant principal,” said Mr. LaBate. “Mike is a great example of someone who has done it all, from his beginnings at CHS as a para-professional, through his years teaching math, and now as assistant principal. He has simply done great work for us.”
