Senior night sparked for the Mount Si boys soccer team, who broke into the postseason and netted a second-place Kingco 3A finish.

Dyson Fowler and Sam Joselyn scored goals in the ‘Cats’ 2-1 win over Interlake, Tuesday, May 5, ensuring that Mount Si stayed in the hunt.

The Wildcats settled matters against Juanita, Thursday, May 7, with another 2-1 victory. That win, combined with a Bellevue loss to Liberty, gave Mount Si home field advantage throughout the league portion of postseason play — vital in this year’s on-again, off-again season.

Interlake scored first in the 28th minute, on a breakaway shot that zoomed in off the inside of the left post against Mount Si backup Sam Evans. Fowler’s goal came in the 37th minute, and Joselyn put Mount Si up with a goal in the 47th minute.

Playing forward in the first half, the college-bound Tipton made a vital assist on the Fowler goal.

“It was big. We needed those three points,” Mount Si coach Darren Brown said. In the words of his coach, Tipton “just hustles.”

Senior Wildcat players — Tipton, defender Alex Bolves, and forward A.J. Leland — were honored prior to last Tuesday’s game.

“These three guys are pretty special,” Brown said. “They’re great guys and they’re three huge seniors that we’re going to miss next year.”

The seniors said they will miss being a part of the team.

“It was a lot of fun,” Bolves said. “Brown does a really good job of keeping it serious, but keeping us having a good time, too.”

The defender is planning on attending Azusa Pacific in California, and is looking to study theology.

Tipton, who will attend and play soccer this fall at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., will also miss his coach.

“He’s been a family friend the entire time and that’s what I’ll probably miss the most of all,” Tipton said.

As he moves on, Tipton is savoring his leadership role as goalkeeper.

“I’ll miss having people do what I say. I haven’t always had that, and for me, to be able to say something and for them to listen, it’s a great feeling inside,” Tipton said.

During play Thursday, Eric Baumgardner scored the winning goal with eight minutes left in regulation time to lift the Wildcats to a 2-1 win over the Rebels.

Mount Si was eliminated in the first round of playoffs, hosting Sammamish Monday, May 11. Sammamish won, 1-0. Joshuah Gray scored lone goal for Totems in the 58th minute off a rebound of a previous shot.

Mount Si’s final season record is 6-9-2, 5-5-2 league.
