Participants in the upcoming Snoqualmie Valley Economic Development Conference will share ways that the Valley is pushing the envelope in going green.
The conference, planned for 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge Clubhouse, includes community leaders, students, businessmen and city staff, and highlights what they are doing to to pursue environmentally sound, energy-efficient practices.
Many residents may not know it, but conference organizer Bob Cole said the Snoqualmie Valley is fortunate to have much of its infrastructure being built to green standards. Cole’s been impressed by new construction practices, reclamation of wastewater, recycling of demolished building materials, and other activities.
The upcoming conference and panel discussion highlights strides by local businesses including Quadrant, Puget Sound Energy, Earthheat of Duvall, Cedar Grove Organic Recycling, and others.
Speaking on how government policies may effect Eastside residents, Congressman Jay Inslee will speak on “Launching an American Clean Energy Revolution,” and Congressman Dave Reichert will give a talk on “Global Economy and the Environment.” Andy Wappler of Puget Sound Energy will speak about going “Cleaner, Greener, and Smarter.”
The meeting will wrap with a presentation on how people can use sustainability changes in their own lives, by University of Washington students working with the city of Snoqualmie.
This is the second year for the conference. Space is still available. Cost is $40, and includes breakfast and lunch.
