Bernice A. Phelps

Bernice Phelps passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, at the Gardenia Adult Family Home in Bothell where she had been a resident for the past 3 years. Prior to that, she had been a long-time resident of Fall City.Bernice Alice Bloom (Babs to her family) was born in Sandpoint, ID, in 1921, one of 7 children of Carl and Rosalyn Bloom. After graduating from Kellogg High School in 1939, she first moved to Spokane, and then to Seattle where she worked for Boeing as a timekeeper and later as Shop Steward.In 1943 she married C. Eugene Phelps in Seattle. When Gene was discharged from the Coast Guard, they moved to Snoqualmie Falls where Gene had grown up. The family remained there in Weyerhaeuser housing until 1958 when they bought their home in Fall City.After their 3 kids were all off to school, Bernice began working for the Monte Vista Dist. Co as a bookkeeper. She was active in the Methodist church, originally going to the Snoqualmie church and later transferring to the Fall City Church. In addition to being a dedicated gardener, she enjoyed bowling, water aerobics, and travel. After both she and Gene re-tired in 1978, they took trips to Fiji, New Zealand and Tahiti as well as trips around the United States.Bernice is survived by her son, Bob Phelps (Ann) of Spokane, daughters Nancy Peebles (Rich) of Bothell and Jean Bergeron (Paul) of Kirkland and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Fall City United Methodist on August 29 at 11:00 am.
