Last Saturday, I joined 100 patriots to “March for Truth” in North Bend, with the Snoqualmie Valley Indivisibles. The response we received was overwhelmingly positive. There were dozens of supportive honks, and only three negative responses.
One young woman yelled, “Go (expletive) home.” It was not readily apparent what she had against truth. Fortunately, most people were not like her. It was a friendly and humorous group. Who would have guessed protesting to save democracy would be so much fun, with such nice people?
My sign read “Democracy Dies in Darkness” on one side, and “100 days and 492 Lies,” on the other. Both statements came from the Washington Post. They have been tracking Trump’s falsehoods and misleading statements, and his accomplishment for his first 100 days is making 492 of them. Could he make the Guinness Book of Records?
When I told a Trump supporter, Trump lies, he responded, “They all do.” That’s debatable, but clearly not like the President. He averaged 4.9 falsehoods a day. There were only 10 falsehood-free days, and six of those he was golfing. Perhaps Kelly Anne Conway filled in the gap with some “alternative facts.”
Protestors believe democracy is under attack by a dangerously mentally ill Republican President. Dr. Stanton Samenow, an expert on criminal minds, says that, “Saying it, makes it so” is a main characteristic of the criminal character. Dictators manipulate people with their lies.
An attack on truth is an attack on democracy.
