Fifteen students in the Mount Si High School Sports Medicine program participated in the National Sports Medicine Association competition on May 18, claiming a 15th-place finish for the school, out of 28 schools competing. Individually, senior Kayla Underbrink placed fourth overall, earning a divisional High School All American award.
Other members of the team included James Bent, Betsy Carroll, Trevor Clem, Sarah Goodspeed, Levi Jorgensen, Spencer Marenco, Haley Michaels, Chloe Mooreland, Riordan Roche, Nicole Sauer, Anne Spellman, Ellie Stedman, Myranda Veras and Lexi Winter
The competition included online written exams and oral practical exams in varsity sports medicine, first aid & CPR, anatomy, medical terminology, exercise physiology, and taping.
“We are very proud of the dedication of these students representing Mount Si High School in the Sports Medicine national competition. It has been exciting to see how the program helps introduce students to health professions and career fields that many of our students decide to continue pursuing in college,” said Robin Backstrom LAT ATC, Mount Si High School Sports Medicine Program advisor.
