Former Seattle Seahawk to visit Sno-Valley Senior Center Wednesday for 12 Days of Goodness

Answers for Elders’ 12 Days of Goodness kicks off again this year on Tuesday Dec. 12 at noon, for 12 days, in which former Seahawks players visit seniors throughout Puget Sound, encouraging the community to remember our senior friends and family. The Seahawks will make a stop at the Sno-Valley Senior Center in Carnation on Wednesday, where Sam Adkins will meet with guests over lunch, starting at noon.

The event has also teamed up with Visiting Hooves of Toledo, to bring miniature therapy horses to memory care seniors.

“To visit seniors in memory care afflicted with Alzheimer’s and dementia, therapy animals are in many cases, a miracle, in reaching seniors in advanced stages,” says Suzanne Newman, CEO of Answers for Elders and Founder of 12 Days of Goodness.

“We focus most of the program on Seahawks’ legends, but our main mission is to touch the hearts of seniors across Greater Puget Sound, and with memory care seniors, therapy animals much more effective to help us reach all lonely seniors.” Newman said.

According to the Washington State Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, over 150,000 Washington State residents are afflicted with Alzheimer’s, and many are alone in memory care facilities.

“We are truly excited to be a part of 12 Days of Goodness this year!”, says Victoria Smith, President and CEO of Visiting Hooves. “It is my true passion to work with memory care seniors”, says Smith. “Each one of my therapy animals are in intensive therapy training for a minimum of six months before they are put to work,” Smith said.

In conjunction with the 31 official 12 Days of Goodness’ calendar of events that run from Tuesday, Dec. 12 to Saturday, Dec. 23 , Visiting Hooves will have a separate schedule to visit over 21 Memory Care communities during the 12 days.

Through its outreach, 12 Days of Goodness raises awareness that according to numerous studies, 60 percent of seniors are without regular visitors. It can be especially depressing during the holidays, as seniors sit alone and have memories of their lives before or missing loved ones who have passed.
