In order to raise money for the upcoming Relay for Life, Mount Si Key Club students put on their fourth Bark for Life event on March 31 at Cascade View Elementary School.

Bark for Life is a dog-themed fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event in July. The Mount Si Key Club raises money for their team through donations from sponsors as well as through ticket sales and their silent auction.

Sophomores Mackenzie Saunders and Carly Lane, students who helped organize the event, said 100 percent of the money raised goes to the American Cancer Society through the Snoqualmie Valley Relay group.

“(The ticket money) and the money we get from auctions and selling items all goes to help the American Cancer Society do a multitude of different things.” Saunders said. “They help fund cancer research, but they also do things like help pay for detection before clinically you can find it, they also help pay for hospital stays and transportation to and from the hospital.”

Lane said that they were able to contact several businesses and organizations to sponsor the event including Pet Place Market, Valley Animal Partners and Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis.

Key Club Adviser and Mount Si Teacher Joe Dockery said that the event also functions as leadership development. Not only do students learn how to interact with businesses on a professional level but they also work together to plan a public event.

The official Snoqualmie Valley Relay for Life event is scheduled for July 14 and 15 at Tollgate Farm Park in North Bend.
