Heirloom Cookshop hosted its first Green Market on June 1, there was a large turnout, according to event organizers.
Over 300 area residents attended. The market is a meeting place where friends and neighbors catch up over small bites, iced tea, or a glass of wine as they enjoy live music and shop from a bounty of farm-fresh produce and locally made products.
“I was blown away,” said Kristen Schumacher, head chef and owner of Heirloom Cookshop and host of the Green Market. “My goal to start the market comes from my adoration of local farms, and the respect I have for what we grow in the Pacific Northwest. We love the market not only for its ability to bring local makers, farmers, and musicians to downtown Snoqualmie but also for the tight-knit community and the close relationships we’ve been able to forge with the people who grow the food we cook. It’s also about giving consumers the opportunity to make choices about supporting and purchasing locally grown products, as well as educating about building higher standards for our food System. All the while we can eat, drink and celebrate together. I had hoped that the market would turn out well, and I was just so excited to see our community come out to shop local. We have a special market menu we are serving at Heirloom; we had people lined up out the door and completely sold out of menu items by the end of the day.”
One vendor, Laura Joy Bakery, is thrilled to a part of the Green Market this year.
“It was amazing,” she said. “I am just starting out with my business, and I had never done a market before. It was great to have so much positive feedback, and I sold almost everything.”
