Superb signal caller leads Wildcats

Mount Si senior quarterback Cale Millen’s accuracy wreaks havoc on defenses.

Mount Si senior quarterback Cale Millen’s dominance was evident on all levels in a matchup against the Skyline Spartans on Oct. 12.

Millen completed 26 of his 28 passes for 320 yards and six touchdowns in Mount Si’s convincing 42-7 win against Skyline in Sammamish. Through seven games, Millen’s numbers are staggeringly great. Millen has thrown 30 touchdown passes and has been intercepted only four times.

“His accuracy has been awesome all year. He is in the 70 percent range. You couldn’t ask for anything more from a quarterback,” Wildcats’ head football coach Charlie Kinnune said. “One of the things that strikes me is that he continues to get better. I love the fact that one of our best players is still getting better. There is no plateauing with him.”

Kinnune, who is a self-proclaimed worrier, said Millen’s calm demeanor has a positive effect on the Wildcats.

“One of the things I appreciate the most about Cale more than anything is that he gives the coaches confidence. I’m a worry wart. If I want to get rid of that, I go hang out with him (Millen). Once I do that, I feel the confidence right away,” Kinnune said. “It can be a weight room session, it can be a conversation walking from the locker room to the practice field or it can be a film session. My doubt dissipates quickly.”

Millen’s top target in the passing game this season is senior wide receiver Jonny Barrett. Barrett, who caught five touchdown passes from Millen against Skyline, has 17 touchdown catches through seven games.

“He makes my job a lot easier and is such a big target,” Millen said of Barrett. “I always know where he is going to be. I have thrown to him since I was in the third grade. We just have a great connection.”

Millen and Barrett played on the same flag football team in 2009. Recently the Snoqualmie Valley Record had an opportunity to ask Millen a few questions about his life away from the football field.

Snoqualmie Valley Record: What is your favorite restaurant in the Snoqualmie/North Bend area?

Cale Millen: I would probably say Ana’s Mexican Restaurant. I like Mexican food.

SVR: What is your favorite movie of all time?

CM: “Braveheart.” I like war movies a lot.

SVR: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with who would it be?

CM: Tom Brady (New England Patriots quarterback). He is the GOAT (greatest of all time).

SVR: What kind of music are you listening to the most in your car right now?

CM: I listen to rock, classic rock, hip-hop and country.

SVR: Where do you see yourself in five years?

CM: Obviously I will be going to Oregon next year. Hopefully if things go well, I will make it to the league (National Football League). If not, hopefully I will have prepared a backup plan.

SVR: What is your favorite hobby away from football?

CM: I would probably say pickup basketball but I haven’t done that in a long time. I’m trying to stay healthy.
