SPOTLIGHT 2019: ProSki and Mountain Service provides rentals and outerwear for the ski season

Customers can also schedule guided mountain services.

Skiers and snowboarders can find a variety of boots, bindings and specialized outerwear at the ProSki and Mountain Service shop in downtown North Bend.

ProSki and Mountain Service has been in service since the 1990s, led by owner Martin Volken. During the winter, the shop provides equipment for downhill skiing, snowboarding and splitboarding, in addition to their apparel for those in the mountain lifestyle.

Store manager Michael Warner said that what sets them apart from the competition is their attention to specialized clothing and outerwear that they keep on hand in the store.

“You’re going to find really high-end, user-specific pieces,” Warner said. Instead of typical outlet outerwear, customers will find jackets, flannels and other goods from Dynafit, Outdoor Research and Exped in addition to skis, boots and bindings.

“We want to find out what we can offer them that’s different than other retailers,” Warner said.

Customers can also schedule guided mountain services through Pro Guiding Service, which operates in the same building. Each guide is certified by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) so that guiding mountain trips are safe and smooth.

ProSki and Mountain Service also offers rentals on a daily and seasonal basis for their skis, boots and more. They also provide a Kids Buyback Program, allowing customers to sell their kids’ skis back to the shop when they outgrow them.

But the shop also gives back to the community through organizations that many winter-sports enthusiasts will appreciate. ProSki partners with North Bend Theater to present films from the 5Point Film Festival and the Mountain Film Festival series. Proceeds from these events go toward organizations like Big City Mountaineers and the Northwest Avalanche Center.

Warner said that Proski always has the customer in mind, and wants to serve them in any of their snow-, rock- or alpine-related needs.

“Most of our business comes from North Bend and Snoqualmie. We’re always thankful for their support,” Warner said. “We want to bring them the stuff that they need to go outside, so we can be their headquarters.”

ProSki and Mountain Service is located at 108 West North Bend Way. If you’re interested in their services, call (425) 888-6397 to reach their office line.
