A 47-year-old North Bend woman died in a head-on collision on state Route 18 on Jan. 25.
At 11:21 a.m. on Jan. 25, Eastside Fire & Rescue and Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to the serious collision. The collision happened about halfway between the Interstate 90/SR 18 interchange and the Raging River (at milepost 27). The collision blocked all three lanes.
According to WSP Trooper Rick Johnson, the North Bend woman was driving an SUV westbound on SR 18. She crossed the double yellow line and hit a semi truck that was traveling eastbound. Both vehicles ended up in a roadside ditch where the SUV then caught fire.
The North Bend woman, Angela Wilson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi truck driver was 46-year-old Vahagn Martirosyan of Federal Way. He was transported to Overlake Hospital for minor injuries.
Crews were cleaning the wreckage until 6:22 p.m. All lanes were reopened at that time.
Johnson said the cause of Wilson crossing the double yellow line is currently unknown. WSP does not suspect drugs or alcohol at this time.
Johnson said he advises all drivers to take precautions and drive defensively to avoid collisions.
