I love our Fall City Fire Department!
Our department made great progress over the past year. An 11th firefighter was hired and 3-person career firefighter crews are now scheduled 24/7. New bunker gear was bought for all firefighters and a power load for the aid car. A temporary training captain was appointed, and new training program implemented that doubled training hours for firefighters.
Eighteen months ago, I began attending and participating in the fire commissioners’ monthly 4-year financial planning meetings. I see the outcome of those meetings as a good 2021-2024 budget that gets the job done while retaining year-end cash funds, allowing for additional firefighter training options, funding a 12 th career firefighter, and funding future replacement of vehicles and apparatus. The 2021-2024 M&O Levy is not a new levy or a new tax. It replaces the four-year maintenance and operations (M&O) levy that expires in 2020. With the station remodel and engine paid off, our department will be debt-free in 2021 and you’ll stop paying those taxes. Property taxes paid for our fire department provide a very local benefit for our Fall City community.
