Lambert, Perry move on to general election

Incumbent Kathy Lambert will be challenged by Sarah Perry for the District 3 position on the King County Council this November. The result comes as county officials certified primary election results on Aug. 17.

Lambert carried about 40% of the vote and was about 2,000 votes ahead of Perry, who took 36% . The remaining votes were received by third-place candidate Joe Cohen.

The county District 3 position represents residents from the northeastern part of King County — including Snoqualmie, North Bend and Fall City — and is the largest of the nine districts.

Only about a third of registered District 3 voters cast a ballot in this year’s primary, which is similar to the county average. This was the lowest primary voter turnout the county has seen since 2017.

Lambert is seeking her sixth term on council and has held the third district seat since 2001. In her five previous efforts, she ran unopposed in three and handily won the other two, with almost 60% of the vote in each. This year was the first time she faced multiple primary challengers.

Lambert’s challenger, Perry, has been the owner of a political consulting firm since 2002. She has also received endorsements from Gov. Jay Inslee and U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier.

Ballots for the general election will be mailed beginning Oct. 13, 2021. They will be due by 8 p.m. on Nov. 2.
