The Mount Si boys basketball team lost a 52-49 nail-biter to Curtis High School in the WIAA 4A state championship game on Saturday, March 5.
The Wildcats and Vikings were almost dead-even the entire game, and needed overtime to crown the state champion. The Wildcats clung to a 1-point lead with just 5.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter and finished regulation tied at 42.
With just over a minute left in overtime, Mount Si had a 2-point lead before Curtis added 5 more to take the game, 52-49.
This marks the third year in a row — excluding 2021 when the season was cancelled due to COVID — that the Wildcats have appeared in the state final. It was also just the seventh state final to go to overtime and the first to do so in 15 years.
The Wildcats finish the year as both the district and KingCo League champions. They will graduate seven seniors from their varsity roster, including: Bennett O’Connor, Blake Miller, Drew Hiddleson, Eli Spence, Quin Patterson, Cam Holliway and Ben Bonnofsky.
