The SnoValley Chamber of Commerce launched a new mobile app this week, which it hopes will help local businesses capitalize on tourists visiting the Snoqualmie Valley who don’t often shop or eat in town.
SnoValley Chamber Executive Director Kelly Coughlin said the goal of the new “Discover Snoqualmie Valley” app is to help tourists find and seek out more businesses in the area, noting that the Valley has over 8 million annual visitors, including 1.5 million who travel to Snoqualmie Falls, but less than 1% go to a second location.
“We’re trying to bring in more people and bring economic vitality,” she said.
The app features information on a range of businesses across the Valley in one location, broken down into categories by area and type of business. It is available on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Chamber members can add their business by downloading the app and selecting “list my business.”
The app is funded in part by a $9,500 grant from the City of Snoqualmie’s annual Lodging Tax advisory committee, which provides funds for economic development and tourism based projects. The app also received funds from the Alan Painter grant program, which supports community service projects in unincorporated areas.
“The mobile app is intended to help drive business to restaurants in the area and keep people longer here in the area,” Snoqualmie Councilmember Rob Wotton said at the April 11 council meeting. “It’s a small ask and hopefully a big bang for the investment.”
