Riverview Educational Foundation’s third annual “Run for Riverview” Turkey Trot Event is Saturday, Nov. 15 at Tolt Middle School in Carnation.

New this year is the opportunity to run the popular 5K and 10K courses for free. Collecting $100 in pledges entitles runners to a free race entry. Collecting $200 in pledges lets runners be featured as a supporter on the 2009 race shirts. All profits go directly back into the schools for health and physical education needs.

Events include the 5K/10K Turkey Trots, a course leading from the Expo area and onto the scenic Snoqualmie Valley Trail with views of a private 400-acre camp.

There will be a variety of free Lil’ Gobbler Dashes, open to all children age 10 and under, including shorter sprints for theyounger set, with runs up to 100 yards for the oldest children. All finishers receive ribbons.

A free Health Expo will feature Group Health Foundation’s Blood and Guts exhibit, fun taste tests just for children at the PCC Kid Picks Van. Local author Bri Grant will be on hand to run and sign copies of her book, “We Are Girls Who Love to Run.”

The annual run has awarded more than $15,000 to local schools. Grants funded include weights, aerobic and lacrosse equipment and advanced health curriculum materials, strength equipment, stability balls, bilingual parent education materials, tchoukball equipment and climbing room upgrades, and special education life skills materials.

Riverview Educational Foundation is a non-profit volunteer organization established in 1991 by local community members to enhance the educational opportunities of Riverview School District. Supporting positive physical activity and eating behaviors aids learning, organizers said.
