No matter how much of an independent music fan you are, you probably haven’t heard of The Hitch, Candy Muscle, The Ian Fayes, Monster Women, The Lowlights, The Ravens or Smashed Glass. The bands are (or were) part of the vibrant music scene in rural Humboldt County, Calif.

The documentary film “Rural Rock & Roll” chronicles a one-week snapshot of the isolated county’s music scene in 2005. The film plays in North Bend Saturday, June 9, followed by a concert that will include three bands featured in the one-hour movie. Director Jensen Rufe said the North Bend show is the “mystery show” on the four-day Pacific Northwest screening tour. The other show dates are in major cities (Eugene, Ore., Portland, Ore., and Seattle) but, in light of the rural subject matter, Rufe said he wanted to bring the tour to North Bend “to pay tribute to a fellow rural town.”
