Shirley Lee Cox | Obituary

Our wonderful mother, Shirley Lee Cox, 87, passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Carnation, WA, on June 9, 2023. She was born in Snoqualmie, Washington, to Harold and Grace Thompson and graduated from Mount Si High School in 1953.

Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Bob Cox in 1956 and together they raised 4 children, Bob, Ron, Richard and Kitty. Shirley was a stay at home mom, Cub Scout leader and Campfire Girl leader until 1969 when she and Bob bought Carnation Lumber Supply in Carnation, Washington. Over the next 14 years they expanded the small lumber and hardware business and added a Washington State Liquor agency in the store, which Shirley ran. Their 4 children grew up working in the business. In March 1983 they sold the business to their 3 sons and moved to Maui, Hawaii for their next business adventure where Shirley managed a condominium rental program and went to school to obtain her real estate license.

After retiring Shirley and Bob moved back to Carnation where they built a new home, bought a motor home and traveled throughout the lower 48 states and Canada with Shirley’s sister and brother-in-law.

Shirley loved dachshunds, crocheting, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob, her children Ron Cox (KC), Richard Cox (Penny), Kitty Lynch (Monte), daughter-in- law Sue Eastman, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews and her very special caregiver and friend Debi Furtado.
