Judy (Jaderlund) Stermetz | Obituary

December 12, 1944 – October 26, 2024

Heaven must have been missing an angel, but received one on Saturday, October 26th, when Judy Stermetz passed away at Pacifica Memory Care in Ellensburg, Washington surrounded by her family. Her last breath on earth was her first breath in heaven.

Judy Jaderlund was born on December 12th, 1944, in Cle Elum, Washington to Gus and Margaret Jaderlund. She grew up in Roslyn and attended Roslyn Grade School through the eighth grade. Judy met Charlie Stermetz at the Cle Elum swimming pool and had their first date in October 1959.

Judy and Charlie married on June 19th, 1965, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Roslyn.

To this union were born two children, Kristi in 1966 and Kurt in 1969. She leaves six grandchildren, Dayton and Kade Sloan, Maggie Flugel, Brita, Bode, and Ticey Stermetz. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maggie and Gus Jaderlund, two sisters, Margie Lenorad and Nancy Barr and her husband, Chuck, and brother, Robert (Bob) Jaderlund and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Charlie, her daughter Kristi (Dean) Sloan and family, son Kurt (Heather) Stermetz and family. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws Judy (John) Plesha and Marlene Jaderlund and one first cousin, Joan Labusky. Judy also leaves behind a niece, Kelli (Olly) Lyles, and nephews, Michael Barr, Rob (Becky), Dave (Michele), Eric (Kim), and Lance (Kumi) Jaderlund.

After graduating from Cle Elum-Roslyn High School in 1963, she attended Central Washington State College (now CWU) graduating in 1969 with a BA in Education. She taught twenty-six years at North Bend Elementary School in third and fourth grades, retiring in 2004.

Judy and Charlie then moved from North Bend to Ellensburg to cheer on the CWU Wildcats. They enjoyed traveling to Lake Havasu, Arizona and Palm Desert, California in the springtime.

Judy loved her family immensely and enjoyed family get-togethers. Many of these events were held at their Lake Cle Elum cabin in Driftwood Acres. She also loved to garden, attend sporting events of her grandchildren and alumni school. She also loved to fish with her husband and take long rides looking for grouse and deer.

Judy developed vascular dementia five and a half years ago, which later developed into Alzheimer’s. She was a resident of Pacifica Memory Care in Ellensburg where the staff cared for and loved her daily. Hospice also became part of her life and provided assistance in her time of need. Many thanks given to those two groups for their loving care of Judy and family.
